You have just completed a very brave and terrifying task—you have successfully undergone a mastectomy surgery. We cannot emphasize enough how much we admire your courage throughout your traumatizing ordeal, and your fearlessness is an inspiration to us and many.
You probably have a million questions floating through your head about what you can expect after your surgery is complete. We at Pink Ribbons LLC often get asked this by our customers—they want to know what’s to come and how they can move on with their daily lives. It is our pleasure and honor to help you cope and recover, both physically and mentally, however we can.
There are two stages that we want to walk you through after your mastectomy surgery. The first stage is what you should expect immediately after you get off the operating table. Before you leave the hospital, your nurse or surgeon will give you information about how you can recover at home as quickly and painlessly as possible. These steps will likely include the pain medication you should take, caring for the bandage over your incision, caring for a surgical drain, caring for your stitches and staples, and recognizing the signs of infection. Typical recovery time at home lasts a few weeks, but perhaps longer if you had a complete reconstruction.
The next stage is getting into a daily routine. That’s where the Pink Ribbons shop comes into play. While we know that nothing can replace what you have lost in your mastectomy, we try to ease the transition for you as much as possible. That’s why we carry a wide selection of mastectomy bras and breasts prosthetics. Not only that, but we are pleased to offer a special type of care for you in the days and weeks following your surgery and radiation treatment. We are happy to provide you with a pre-surgery consultation and post-op camisoles, which are specifically designed for comfort and east immediately after your operation.
